ATTENTION - Trail Detour(s)

On Trail #2 (Old Province Road to Sunapee Town Hall)  A short portion of SRKG Trail 2 is currently blocked. It is the last part that emerges on Stagecoach Road opposite the Wyman driveway. The landowner is preparing one or more building lots. We anticipate re-routing this short section when (and if) we obtain the landowners permission. At this point there is no known walk-around to complete this portion of the trail. Please avoid this trail if unless you intend to return to your starting point.

A permanent reroute within Sunapee Village takes the SRK Greenway from Ski Tow Hill as you emerge from the woods heading to Town Offices through the upper village and down the Sugar River Riverwalk.  Cross NH 103B straight ahead to High Street, R up hill on Elm Street to L on Maple Street, then downhill to the Village and follow signs for the Riverwalk.  The Riverwalk trail starts at a boardwalk bridge over the head of the Sugar River, follows the river, goes through the horse stable under the old town hall, past the intake for the town water-turbine power plant, then crossing the river again at High Street Bridge and downhill to the Town Office parking.

The last part of Trail #3 (Sunapee Town Hall to Deer Hill Road) is now subject to a detour until further notice.  When you reach Hogg Hill Road/Prospect Hill Road (last paragraph of the trail description in the Trail Guide), turn left until you reach Stony Brook Road.  Turn right on Stony Brook Road, crossing under I-89 as before  to Deer Hill Road.

Warning for bridge on SRK Trail #5 (Springfield/NL Road (NH 114) to Great Brook Bridge) between Perley Road and Royal Arch: We have "decommissioned" the rotting and slippery bridge crossing Kidder Brook on SRK Greenway Trail 5 north of Perley Road. Kidder Brook Bridge is out of commission, probably until Summer 2008. The maple stringers of the old bridge were rotting and unsafe; it has been totally removed. A new bridge is not complete. New postings at trailheads alert hikers that the bridge is out.

Due to road closing by the New London-Springfield Water District, we did not get all materials on site in time for fall work. Unsure of weather conditions, and not wanting to work in winter, we (Ralph & I) decided to post signs at trailheads notifying hikers that the bridge is out. At present, water is high and flowing quickly. Signs to that effect are at NH 114, at Webster Pass, at the bridge itself, at Twin Lake Villa parking for Kidder Brook Trail, and at Coco's Path along Great Brook.

A short section of the northern end of Trail #5 is on private land between NH 114 and Webster Pass Road. Owners of the new home built close to Webster Pass Road have given the Greenway permission to reroute the trail on their land. Please take special care to stay on trail where it crosses a corner of their rear yard.

A portion of Trail #8 (Wilmot Center to New Canada Road) has been disturbed by a logging operation on a section of Trail 8 (Wilcox property) between North Wilmot Road and Patterson Road (Beaver Pond trail). It may be finished, but please be careful if work is still going on. The Greenway Directors and volunteers are working on a detour. More details to follow.

SRKGC Trail Guide Available

The SRKG Trail Guide, which costs $10.00, replaces the Trail Guide sheets which were available at the trailheads of every trail segment. SRKG members, and non-members who use the trails, should have one of these books. In addition to completely updated trail descriptions and re-done maps, the guide has interesting pen and ink sketches of local flora and fauna by artist and member Loa Winter. Introductory, historical, and practical information is also included. The guidebooks are available at:

List Server for Hikes on the SRK Greenway and elsewhere: hikingpartners@srkg.com

This is a new service to allow SRKG hikers to find a hiking partner for that "spur of the moment" hike. Once you are a member, by following the directions below, simply send an email to the address above and it will be sent to all members of our listserv.

An example message might be: "I want to hike on Bog Mt. next Tuesday afternoon. Anyone interested in joining me?

If someone is interested, they will use the reply button to add their message which will also go to everyone on the list. So why not give it a try?

How to SUBSCRIBE:

To subscribe to the list, send a blank email to hikingpartners-subscribe@srkg.com.

You will receive from the listserv the following email momentarily.

Hi! This is the ezmlm program. I'm managing the
hikingpartners@srkg.com mailing list.

I'm working for my owner, who can be reached
at hikingpartners-owner@srkg.com.

To confirm that you would like

srkgc@srkg.com [the email address you sent the subscription request from]

added to the hikingpartners mailing list, please send
an empty reply to this address:

   hikingpartners-sc.1173924289.jmclbakmeciahopkplck-srkgc=srkg.com@srkg.com

Usually, this happens when you just hit the "reply" button.
If this does not work, simply copy the address and paste it into
the "To:" field of a new message.

This confirmation serves two purposes. First, it verifies that I am able
to get mail through to you. Second, it protects you in case someone
forges a subscription request in your name.

How to UNSUBSCRIBE:

To remove your address from the list, just send a message to
the address in the ``List-Unsubscribe'' header of any list
message. If you haven't changed addresses since subscribing,
you can also send a message to:

   <hikingpartners-unsubscribe@srkg.com>

For addition or removal of addresses, I'll send a confirmation
message to that address. When you receive it, simply reply to it
to complete the transaction.

What is a mailing list:

A mailing list is an automated message email address, where you first subscribe to a particular List.

Once subscribed, email that you then send to the list is sent to all the other subscribers of that list.

After all of this, if you need assistance, just email us at srkgc@srkg.com.
